The Beautiful Game Quiz ("we", "us", "the site") is a free football quiz website at thebeautifulgamequiz.com. This policy explains what data we collect, why, how it is used, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.

Who we are

The Beautiful Game Quiz is an independent website. For any privacy question or request, contact us at thebeautifulgamequiz@gmail.com.

What we collect

• If you play as a guest: nothing that identifies you. We keep an anonymous count of games played so we can measure how busy the site is. No name, no email.
• If you create an account: your email address and a username, handled through our authentication provider (Supabase). We also store your quiz results, score, experience points and game history so we can show your progress and leaderboards.
• Feedback you send: if you report a question or send feedback, we store the message you submit.
• Blog reading: when you open a blog article we record which article was viewed (the page address only) so we can see which pieces are popular. This does not identify you and uses no cookies.
• Basic technical data: like any website, our hosting providers process standard request information (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and keep the service secure.

Cookies and advertising

We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in if you have an account. We do not use cookies to track guests around the web ourselves.

We show ads through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites:

• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can opt out of a third party's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.

Analytics

We use a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool (Vercel Web Analytics) to understand aggregate traffic — for example how many people visit a page. It does not build a profile of you or track you across other sites.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We use a small number of trusted providers purely to run the service: Supabase (accounts and database), Vercel and Render (hosting), Google AdSense (advertising) and Resend (sending the site owner internal reports). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept while your account exists. If you delete your account, or ask us to delete it, we remove your personal data. Anonymous counts and aggregate stats may be retained as they do not identify you.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or EU, you have rights under UK GDPR / GDPR to access, correct or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, email thebeautifulgamequiz@gmail.com and we will respond.

Children

The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.
